THE HASANAH REPORT 2022

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Developing vulnerable communities is directly proportionate to advancing a nation. Sufficient resources must be combined with talent, knowledge and skill-related initiatives so that ultimately, community members have control over every aspect of their lives. Our efforts in 2022 encompassed poverty alleviation, women empowerment, children and protection, as well as mental health support.

HOW WE IMPACTED THEM

A community-based approach (CBA) recognises that the challenges and needs of each community is unique and multi-faceted — and hence any support rendered must take this into consideration. On top of pressing income generation and livelihood concerns, other key areas include confidence-building, nutrition knowledge, awareness of sexual gender-based violence, and creating a support system where everyone can thrive.

Nurturing committed leaders within the community also go a long way in sustaining the long-term impact of any programme. Besides leadership, other training sessions and workshops offered by our partners covered livelihood capacity and mental health skills.

While livelihood programmes in vulnerable communities are crucial for economic upliftment, this is not the sole solution that will have sustainable and intergenerational impact. Such impact happens when these communities’ wellbeing and resilience are also addressed — all of which call for multidimensional interventions. Developing leaders within the community with the ability to inspire and influence their peers is also crucial to sustain these initiatives.
